Primavera e autunno lavorano; l’estate riempie; l’inverno riprende la città. E il calendario delle feste muove la marea dei visitatori.Spring and autumn do the work; summer fills the city; winter takes it back. The calendar of feasts moves the visitor tide.
Maggio e settembre sono le stagioni di lavoro della laguna: luce lunga, maree più tranquille, campi che si usano ancora. L’estate porta il caldo, le code e le giornate in cui la piazza si attraversa presto o tardi. L’inverno è la città al municipio: nebbia, bassa marea, campi tornati ai residenti.May and September are the lagoon’s working seasons: long light, calmer tides, campi still in use. Summer brings the heat, the queues and days when the square is crossed early or late. Winter is the city at home: fog, low water, campi back to the residents.
Le feste che muovono la cittàThe feasts that move the city
Il Carnevale occupa le settimane prima della Quaresima, con un programma cittadino e le maschere nei campi. La Festa del Redentore cade la terza domenica di luglio: ponte di barche verso la Giudecca e fuochi nel bacino il sabato sera. La Regata Storica corre la prima domenica di settembre, con il corteo storico sul Gran Canale. Il 21 novembre la Festa della Salute apre il ponte votivo sul canale.Carnival takes the weeks before Lent, with a municipal programme and masks in the campi. The Festa del Redentore falls on the third Sunday of July: a bridge of boats toward the Giudecca and fireworks over the bacino on Saturday night. The Regata Storica runs on the first Sunday of September, with the historical procession on the Grand Canal. On 21 November the Festa della Salute opens the votive bridge across the canal.

La Biennale alterna arte e architettura: arti visive negli anni dispari, architettura negli anni pari, dalla primavera all’autunno, nei Giardini e all’Arsenale. Negli anni di Biennale la città lavora in lungo per sei mesi, e i letti si prenotano prima.The Biennale alternates art and architecture: visual arts in odd years, architecture in even years, from spring to autumn, in the Giardini and the Arsenale. In Biennale years the city works at full length for six months, and beds are booked earlier.
